Laptop the Chosen One - Writing Week 5
Over
the past years, people are increasingly dependent on modern
devices for completing various tasks in their live. The modern device which had
been used the most is the computer. A computer can be found in many
applications, one of which is the computer in which we write, listen to music
and play games. For example, the modern washing machine using a computer which
was programmed to wash clothes. Some industrial machinery also uses a computer
to move its components, since the use of computers can produce highly precise product
with less error. Another example is the
laptop, which is a simplified form of our computer. Laptop is a very popular, especially
for personal uses, because of its vast amount useful programs and its
simplicity.
A laptop inherited has one good trait
from our daily used computer, which is its vast amount of programs. We can use
its office program to write a paper and make a spreadsheet. We also can use
many of its editing programs to edit various types of files, from a picture to
a video. Furthermore, we also could relax by listening to music, watching movies,
and playing video games. The most important thing is we could use the programs
that we have to ease our work. Thus, we can conclude that a laptop has many
programs which are very useful, since the program could help us to accomplish
various tasks.
Another trait of laptop which
makes it popular is its simplicity. A laptop is not technologically simple;
however, it is simpler than most computers. It has a shape of a small box which
is as small as a big book; furthermore,
with its relatively light weight, one could bring his or her laptop around easily.
A laptop also has a simple interface, which can be mastered easily. Thus, the
simplicity of the laptop leads to its high mobility and easy use.
We now know that with laptop’s
vast amount of useful programs and laptop’s simplicity, it could help us and
ease our works. However, there is a new device that exceeds laptop’s simplicity
and mobility, which is the tablet computers, in cost of having much less useful
programs than laptop. Whether we would choose the laptop or the tablet computer,
or even the old computer, we must choose which one suit us the best, and we
must prevent our self from being consumed by the technology itself.

Manners : Differs with Different Intimacy and Different Social Status Difference - Writing Essay 4
Manner is a very important part
of human life. Manner can be different in diverse cultural settings. In my
culture, manner, which is how we treat and interact with someone, signifies two
things; the level of intimacy and the social status difference.
When we are not close to
someone, we will behave like an acquintance. We would try to look distant and
very polite towards him or her. However, it will be different if we are very
close to him or her since we can be more open and mannerless. For example, when
I first met one of my friend whom place of origin’s is the same as mine, East
Java, I was a bit distant and still speaking Indonesian to him or her since we
still do not know each other well. When we started to know that we are from the
same region, we started to speak our native tongue, Javanese, even though we
were using a polite Javanese. As the time goes, my friend and I became very
close and now we are speaking a rude Javanese, with cursing and swearing, which
in my culture define that we are very close to someone or a very rude person.
Thus we can conclude that the level of manner, which is how we interact with
someone, signifies the level of intimacy between people.
In my culture, someone with
lower social status will usually display good manner to someone from higher
social status. They will try to look polite and nice since if they do not, they
will got a social punishment from the society because they have break normal
manners. However, when they are interacting with someone whose social status’
is equal, their behaviour will be different since they can be more open to him
or her. They will act different again when they are with someone from lower
social status. Some of them will act high and almighty; furthermore, they will
like to give orders and will likely to use force to fulfill what they need.
However, not all of people whose social status’ is higher behave like a
dictator since some of them will act like a protector. Thus, a person social status, which is higher
or lower from another person, could be defined by his or her manner towards the
other.
We now know that, in my culture,
the level of intimacy and social status difference could be defined by our
manner towards the other. We will act differently when we are with our best
friend and when we are with a stranger. We will also act differently when we
are interacting with our boss and when we are interacting with our co-workers.
However, there is a case where our best friends is our boss or our driver. In
the end, we must react with the proper manner in different situation.
Friends That Come and Go - Writing Essay 3
Friendship is a strange form of human bonding. It could be as strong as as
steel; nevertheless, it could be as a fragile as crackers. It could be as
caring and loving as bond between parents and their child; however, it could be
as dominating and protecting as bond between the head and his or her employees
at organization or work. However, there is no boundaries in friendship since
external characters such as age, social status, occupation, or culture are not
looked up when finding friends. As long as there is acceptance whether it
understandable or not, friendship will always be strong and last. However,
there is one kind of friends which is very dangerous: the kind of friend who
became a friend because of others advantages and then leave his or her friends
because of their disadvantages.
There are people that become friends with others because of their
advantages. While this kind of friendship could bring benefit for both sides,
since one side will gain social benefit and the other side will obtain the
other benefit, it has tendencies to become one sided friendship. When the one
who have the advantages have lost his or her advantages, his or her “friend”
would try to avoid him or her; furthermore, his or her “friends” would become
the opposite of him or her.
This kind of friend, which will leave us when we are in trouble or are
having some disadvantages, will cause a trouble in our life. Not only we will
have to face our problem alone since our place to turn for help is gone, but
also will make us harder to trust someone and easier to distrust someone. While
at some point this will make us more cautious to our surroundings, it will make
us harder and harder to trust someone. When we have experienced it too much, we
will believe that there is no one worth to be trusted; furthermore, it will
change us to be come introverted person. This is dangerous because it will make
us do not want to interact with others when we are living in the social worlds;
furthermore, we will feel deserted and abandoned by the world.
What we needed now is a true friends. A friends who accepted whatever
advantages and disadvantages we have. A friends who will not leave us whenever
we have problems. A friends who will there with us wherever we are. A friends
at which we share pain and joy and solve problems. Everytime we need them, they
will come to help us. This kind of friendship is what we need to overcome
whatever problem we had in the future.

Love : for God, Because of God - Writing Essay 2
There are two kinds of love in Islam, love for God and love because of
God. If we have both of them, we could feel love to the fullest;
moreover, we could know the limit of what we could do to the others
we love because we love God and love because of God. However, what
Esthers felt Laurance was not love because of God, it was desire. Her
desire to have him for herself had made her think that take his life
was the only chance for her to make sure nobody will have him.
The true love will never make the one whom we loved gets hurt; besides,
the true form of love is for God and because of God; therefor, hurting
others is prohibited. However, we know that the differences between
love and desires is as thin as a sheet of paper. Sometimes desires
could be mistaken as a love and the other way around; however, only
desires that could control someone to license anything for what he
desires. We can look at how big Esthers' desire to have Laurance that
her desire had made her killed him. She does not care her lover will
be suffered by her action or not, as long as she have him, or rather,
as long as nobody have him instead of her, she will do anything.
Because she know that he would never have him, her desire had mad her
kill him because she can not bear to see him with another woman. If
what she had been true love insted of desires, all of her thought to
kill him will never appeared, instead she will encouraged him and
wished for his happiness since she will know her limit.
One of the story about love I have described is about Ibrahim and his
son, Ismail. After years of waiting for a child, Ibrahim was ordered
by God to tribute his child. Because of his love for God and loving
his child because fo God, he followed God's order to tribute his child.
However, because of his love for God, God saves his child and replace
it with a goat from heaven.
These are two examples of love for God and love because of God. When we
love for God and loving his child because of God, we will have many
good things followed us; however, when our love is not because of God,
someday it will control us to go beyond limit.

Birth Order and Its Effect on Life Adjusment - Writing Essay 1
I had read one essay written by Lucille K. Forer about birth order and its effect on life adjustment in which she stated that the first child is likely to be very close to their parents than the later child; however, my family was the opposite example for Forer's statement. As the first child, I tend to be very protective over my siblings; however, i am the type who like to be alone and accomplish everything by myself. I rather finding my solution alone than asking my parents for help; thus, it makes me distant from my parents.
My youngest sister were very different from me. She was very bossy and often order me or my parents to do something for her. She was the type who like to order anyone even though she could accomplish the job herself. She was very close to my parents and did not like to be left alone; therefor, she is very different from me, especially on our closeness to our parents .
Forer's statement was not accurate because she saw the problem only from birth order point of view. There are many factors that effect life adjustment of each person one of which is from educational point of view. My sisters and I has huge age different; thus, our grade level were also different. My younger sister likes to play a lot and also tends to ignore orders since she is a pre-schooler. My another sister, who had passed away, was an elementary students. She like to help my parents a lot and used to be a very nice and diligent girl. I, as a college student, started to think and do more like a college student. That is our differences; therefor, education is one factor that effect life adjustment of one person.
